review 1: It was a great story - loved the characters that the author lined up and story behind the hauntings. The character development started off okay, but just when you thought you were starting to understand them, they'd do something completely unexpected and, well, out of character. It felt like the author needed them to act a certain way to make the story work and so she just wrote it in there, even if it didn't fit. She did a great job building up the suspense, but I did feel like once they really started working on resolving the hauntings, it was taken care off a little too easily. I feel the need to try the second book in the series...
review 2: This book was quite engaging, but it was the mystery, the what's- going- on?, that held my interest the most. Th... moree characters didn't "spark" for me, but the plotting was excellent, and many of the scenes were white-knuckle tense. I did enjoy the feisty Mia, and eventually Burt stepped up to the plate as a character to care about, but most of the others were very self-involved, and it wouldn't have disturbed me too much if they'd gotten a comeuppance. There are some real baddies in the ghost cast, and a strong sense of place. less
