review 1: I didn't put the book down, so in that sense it was a good book. But the deepest impression it made on me was one of anger, and that tone doesn't match up with any other holocaust survivor book I've ever read. I feel Aline Sax missed the voice of a first person survivor. In particular, the narrator seemed to despise his fellow Jews who seemed to be more passive. I'm surprised at the number of awards it has received.

The illustrations didn´t do much for me...not my style, I guess...but the story was compelling.
