review 1: This is fabulous! Alison Bechdel's drawing already delights me to no end, and the twisting, turning sagas of Mo, Lois, Clarice, Ginger, Toni, et al. add icing of awesome to my intense enchantment with her work. Although Mo is seriously pretty annoying in the beginning, how could I not stick around to see what happened to all of these lovely, well-rounded, 100% fleshed-out, believable and warm and real people? The house that Sparrow, Lois, and Ginger live in together! The evolution of Clarice & Toni's marriage! Carlos! Even Mo had grown on me by the end. I'd like to curl up in this book and live with all of these people.
review 2: Alison Bechdel knows how to tell a story even if it's in a four strip panel. Interesting, comforting and disheartening to discover th... moreat in the world of politics some things never change (strip started in 1987 - the environment was still under threat as was the Israeli/Palestine conflict for example). This is the closest you get to watching your favorite series without turning the TV on. Only complaint is in the later strips it becomes a little too politically heavy and not balanced enough with the lives of the characters and then stops abruptly. less
