review 1: I enjoyed this enough that it kept me up late into the night. In that way, it was a fun read. The story was engaging and well developed and I was glad for the ending - good but not in a way that all problems were solved. However, there were some passages where religion, reflection, or self-actualization seemed forced. At times it was distracting and would have been better left out or more fully developed. Also, in this edition, there were some errors that started to add up, in particular the wrong name being used - Daisy instead of Lily; Steve instead of David.
review 2: I really liked the plot of the story. I actually lived through the same situation two years ago. Unlike Daisy, my brother was only nineteen so my mom had to make the hard decision. I found out
... moreI was pregnant shortly after his funeral. I think my baby helped my family survive and cope after my father's and brother's deaths, which were six weeks apart. I really felt for Lily and her family. Alison Caiola did a wonderful job of showing the truths of reality with her fictional story. If I had not experienced this situation I would have thought Lily's relationship ending with Jamie and beginning with Robbie to be a little fast, but my sister had a whirlwind relationship during our tragic time. Ms. Caiola was spot on with the tornado of emotions Lily deals with while accepting her Mother's death and the revelation of having a half-brother. I enjoyed the references to current celebrities and TV shows/movies. I loved how the book ended with Lily's life mirroring her Mother's young life; Both aspiring writers and pregnant. I still enjoyed the story, but I must warn readers it is not possible to overlook the numerous typos. Overall, this was a great book that could be adapted for the big screen. less
