review 1: My five-year-old son checked this book out from the library today. He was looking for counting books. I am really loving Alison Murray's work as an illustrator and would love to see more of that. I am, however, feeling a bit cheated by her work as a writer, and I would like to see more of that IN THIS BOOK. This is not a bad book, and it certainly is illustrated well. The One, Two, Buckle My Shoe poem goes up to 20, so I might have enjoyed this book had it echoed that count, and therefore had more to this story. Also, a little more humor in the story would not have gone amiss. Actual rating: 3.5 stars, but I round up.
review 2: This is a counting book. Not the best in my opinion. It has numbers and they represent things that the dog is passing while runni... moreng with the little girl's shoe. The illustrations representing the number on the page is not always on the same page as the number itself. It was also a little boring to read. There was some forced rhyming involved in it as well. Of course, it's just a simple counting book, but it's not my favorite one. less
