review 1: If a novel is like a movie, then these short stories were like photographs, interesting snap shots that absorb your gaze because of the depth of the characters. As the story progressed I saw different things and by the end was glad I had visited each photo, each story. I was surprised at how much empathy I felt for so many of the characters, how quickly I became absorbed in their story. I have never read a collection of short stories all by one author before, but I would certainly try it again. I am interested in seeing what else author Alix Ohlin has written. To me the common thread concerned connections between people, ones that are made and ones that are missed.

It's very academically written - long, run-on sentences with hyphenated sidebars that distract from the meaning of the long run-on sentence. A disappointment at best. Slice of life short stories. Not an anthology, all stories are by the same author.
