The Casquette Girls
review 1: This was a joy to read and I would recommend it to anyone who loves New Orleans. It is a lovely urban fantasy set in an amazing city that has so much history and culture. Most of the story is true, based in real places or events, or describes real legends and beliefs from the city. It is descriptive and you really feel like you are experiencing New Orleans post Katrina. It is well written and entertaining with the city as the true star but also great character development. I didn't love the ending and a few of the plot points were hackneyed, but I'm hoping the sequel will continue to develop the characters and story line.
review 2: Alys Arden's The Casquette Girls is one of those books that you can get lost in. From the first page she captivates the reader with
... more her her evocative descriptions of New Orleans. Her characters are rich and fully developed and the storyline is full of intrigue and mystery as it twists and turns. Arden manages to weave an enchanting historical legend with a vampire fantasy and in parts, you begin to wonder where fact gives way to fantasy. This, coupled with the real world setting of Post Katrina New Orleans makes for a truly unique storyline that feels solid and real.I read a lot of vampire books and love it when I find something truly different. The Casquette girls is indeed very different and I guarantee you will fall in love with this brilliantly executed YA fantasy. I can't wait for book two! less
