review 1: Don't get me wrong. This is a well written book with a nice plot and great character development along the book. But I'm not much drawn to the theme of the book and I have some reservation on parts of the story. It's somewhat slow paced in the beginning but it picks up its pace after the separation of Lenca & Joesif and going into the details of their life away from each other. If you enjoy romantic books with a historical background of WW2 addressing specifically the Jews situation in that period then this would be a very good book for you.
review 2: Wow! What a beautiful story. The book opens with an elderly man at his grandson's wedding. He looks across the room at the grandmother of the bride and realizes he recognizes her. He crosses the room and calls her
... more name. She looks at him blankly and he responds, "I am your husband." What a way to draw you into the story. The rest moves back and forth between their lives from young love to being Jewish in Prague as World War II begins and beyond. Unimaginable horrors and choices made after surviving. Great book and I am looking forward to the discussion. less
