review 1: The book begins with the story of young love blooming between Octavio Ribeiro and the lovely Salome. Age old situation where she's from a well to do family and he doesn't seem to have anything to offer her but his total love and dedication. He lucks into a lucrative career and all seems well until he becomes political in Chile when a poet he's long worshipped asks for his help. Moving tale with a secondary story involving a war child. Recommended!
review 2: If I could have given this book 11/10 I would have done so.The Rhythm of Memory combines the gripping storytelling with the evocative settings of Chile and Sweden to tell this sumptuous, beautiful story. It is a novel woven around 2 haunting love stories, I loved all the characters, and felt their pain. It
... more had me in floods of tears, and had to keep stopping as it was so heart wrenching. It was truly a fascinating story, it was just beautiful! I can't praise Alyson enough for her outstanding way with words. It was well researched, and I hadn't read anything based around the coup in Chile so it fascinated me, and knowing atrocities happened, it really does make you weep for the people involved, and the suffering and betrayals of a nation. After reading "The Lost Wife" a few years ago I didn't think another book would match up to it, but Alyson is now one of my all time favourite authors. I can't wait for her new novel! less
