review 1: Had to make myself keep reading this...it has all good intentions BUT it simply felt like a patronizing way of discussing cultural differences. And, since it's our community/college book read for the beginning of Cornell's year, I say it treats these incoming students as if they have so little idea about racial/cultural challenges that they need to be "enlightened" through farce. To me, that is hardly a way to treat such important subjects.
review 2: A decent book that is meant to show the multiculturalism of Italy, despite the persistence racism there. Not sure if it really works though. And the structure of all the characters telling stories about the one (surely much too perfect) hero left me a bit flat too. Still, there are fun moments in all those differ
... moreent people struggling to live their lives in a building, and though I found I didn't care about the conclusion, and who the murderer was in the end, its fun to think about all the people, and their very different ways, in the buildings of the city. less

A deceptively amazing little book. I wish more of Lakhous' work was translated to English.
