review 1: I loved the first book in this series but I could not give this book five stars like I did with that one. I really liked the story and the addition of new characters in this book but I did not like the complete change in the character of Tens. In the first book Tens was whitty and kind of bratty. In this book he is very serious and broody. I also thought it was strange that he cried so much, he is portrayed as very guarded and yet he cries several times in the book. I also thought the "almost sex " scenes were very detailed and graphic for a YA book. There was so much emotional turmoil between Meridian and Tens that did not need to be in the book. I just feel like the relationship did not evolve In a way that seemed to fit with the first book and I think it is because Ten... mores was clipped of his personality in the book.
review 2: I like Tens and Meridian's relationship - how it is awkward at times and totally sweet at others. they really haven't know each other long but do have a deep connection and watching them work through things together towards a stronger relationship is great. And while I didn't like Meridian's jealousy I totally get where she was coming from. She is insecure with low self esteem from having spent her whole life with no friends and thinking she was a freak. How else would she react when her boyfriend turns down sex, leaves the bed to check on another girl and then lies about it. And Juliet oh my goodness she is a saint to have lived that hellish life and still be such a good caring person. She really better have some good luck in the next book! less
