review 1: In my opinion this book is amazing. What made this book so good that there was so many plot twists. Their was so much suspense from the beginning, the tension building up when Ruby first receives Beth's suitcase. What annoyed me mostly is that Mark should had gotten more out of what happened to him. He deserved all the things that was coming to him for taking advantage of girls, then using their work as his own. What shocked me completely was that Professor Barnard is the kidnapper, I was expecting the one keeping Beth would be Mark's wife, because she was jealous of what he was doing. Ruby is a strong girl, I liked how that this story goes back to her past and show us that we can't always run from our demons and we have to face them no matter the consequences. Through out ... morethe story, the flashbacks gave the story more sense. It let me understand why the way she is. She was depicted as is she was crazy but she wasn't this was all Barnard's doing so that Mark will leave her. She wasn't crazy it was all Barnard's doing. When Ruby found this out she furious of the audacity for her scheme to get back at Mark, ruining her life and not let her figure it out herself that Mark is bad for her. Once all the drama was over though, Ruby has moved on, from her past she has faced her demons and beat it. The plot of this story mainly focused on Ruby facing her demons and this was portrayed by switching from present to past, helping me understand the stories. From this gave me kind off a flashback, when I was forced in a situation when I had to face my demons as well. By using the reunion as a reason to face her demons for she can no longer run from it. I would recommend this book to other readers as well. The cliche's we all know and expected from this book was changed. So many plot twist keeping you on the edge.
review 2: When a writer succeeds in describing the secret fears and desires of the human heart while developing a good psychological thriller, filled with references to literature and great authors, I believe we can say we have a great book. I enjoyed each page of the novel, that is fast-paced yet full of effective details and descriptions. Even though love - and its dark side - is one of the main themes, I wouldn't say this is a love story, but a women's story - because women are true protagonists, with their ambitions, weaknesses, and above all, their ability to be passionate about life, death, culture, relationships. I was reminded of my college years, my love for English and American Literature, and I couldn't stop reading until I got to the last, beautiful chapter. It ain't easy to find good contemporary novels on the bookshelves - and this is definitely a GOOD book. less
