review 1: I thought this novel was a good first novel and a haunting tale that I found to be an interesting read about an undertaker who does her best to take care of the dead while not becoming to involved with the living. Personally, I thought the author missed some chances at some points in her story to really move the plot forward in an interesting way. There were some chapters that would end very abruptly with a bit of suspense and intrigue. I would turn the page to see what happened next and the whole incident would be glossed over with only a mention of the past but no mention how the lead character or the characters she was with had exited the suspenseful incident from the previous chapter. I would have preferred she elaborated. I thought the use of flowers and their meani... morengs was an interesting technique and I enjoyed that part of the book. I also enjoyed the bits of supernatural that occurred throughout the novel. A good first novel overall.
review 2: This book was meh..! It had potential to be better but somehow didn't match up to all the hype surrounding it and people proclaiming it to be like Gillian Flynn. I didn't find it intriguing to that level. The writing was abrupt at places and didn't really let the story flow smoothly. I feel that the book needed better editing too. But all said and done, considering it was the author's first book I would may be give it 2.5 stars. Just because I know it could have been better... less

Dark and unusual novel. Not a huge amount happens, but the characterisation is great
