review 1: Good thing about this book - the cover art..it's gorgeous and the reason I picked up Tethered to begin with. The bad things about this book..pretty much everything else. I just don't get all the 4 and 5 star ratings. I found the characters unlikable and the plot hard to follow but still predictable. Although I felt some sympathy for the main character, I still didn't find myself rooting for her. I didn't understand the love connection at all. For me it just wasn't good.
review 2: This book had a great premise - a damaged young woman undertaker is transformed after she gets involved in a child sexual abuse and murder case. Told from the first person, the narrator, Clara, is a wounded character, with a very troubling past. The drama unfolds slowly, with lengthy... more description and melodramatics, especially concerning Clara. She is comfortably entrenched in her own psychic pain. Not unexpectedly, she falls in love with the case detective. It is a doomed relationship that possibly reaches a happy ending. Clara is one of the most unlikable protagonists I have encountered recently in fiction. Because I could not care for her, I lacked any empathy for the other characters and their plights. less
