review 1: My son's homeschool group chose this book to read for a book discussion. I also read the book so that I could have him write his own review after finishing the book. Funny thing is we both gave it a 3. I personally had a hard time staying with the book. It just didn't hold my interest. My son hated it from start to finish. He had a hard time understanding the writing style. His favorite part was the hands down the cougar attack. It's a good book...just not a page turner for us.
review 2: Newbery Honor Book - The second that I started the audiobook, I HATED the reader. Her voice was so annoying and fake childlike. I looked up what other books she had read and was mortified to see that she also read Flora and Ulysses, the Newbery winner this year. I tried to f
... moreocus on the words instead of her voice, but only made it through a couple of hours before switching to the book. I liked the second half better (no surprise there) and that it was a mystery, but could have used more character development and better pacing. The twins could read it in a couple of years (9-10) because of the mature content (the main story line is a girl whose sister has been killed, but she doesn't believe she's really dead). less
