My favourite genre is fantasy, which likely doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The first book I can remember reading is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and ever since then there’s been something about the fantasy genre – the magic and adventure, the new worlds to explore, the escape from my real life – that I’ve been addicted to.
Subgenres I love are; mythology, fairytale retelling, time travel, and magical realism. While I love all fantasy books anything in any of those four subgenres is an automatic add to my TBR list.
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Leigh Bardugo is one of my favourite authors, and with each release of hers I’ve read it’s seems like I’ve fallen more and more in love with her writing. Crooked Kingdom was amazing, and everything I wanted to see in the finale of the Six of Crows duology; it was fast-paced and addictive with great characters and I just never wanted it to end.
As I’m posting this at the beginning of 2018 I figured I’d feature my favourite read of 2017 as well, and that is A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab, likely to the surprise of absolutely no one.
Iron Gold by Pierce Brown
Again as I’m posting this at the beginning of 2018 I have to feature my most anticipated release for 2018, and to narrow it down (because there are so many books coming out that I can’t wait for) I’m picking my most anticipated release from January this year.
I re-read the first two books in the Red Rising trilogy and finally managed to pick up Morning Star last month. Unsurprisingly I loved this series, and kicked myself for not finishing it sooner. Iron Gold is the fourth book in the Red Rising Saga, and oh my god I am counting down the minutes until its release. I have high hopes I’m not going to lie, but I feel like this has the potential to be one of my top reads of 2018.
