review 1: An entertaining read. I wanted to give it 3 and a half stars for three reasons. The first was that a western outsider wrote it, and while she seems to have a lot of experience in Afghanistan, I would prefer to read a tale of Afghanistan written by an Afghan. My bigger issue was that Fawad, the young narrator of the story, sounded much, much older than his 10 years. I absolutely believe that he is extremely intelligent and mature for his age due to all of his life experience. It was kind of unbelievable though. The last thing I had a problem with was the ending. Too fairy-tale like for my liking. What I did like about the book were the characters, particularly the Afghan ones. I also enjoyed the humor and the fact that Afghanistan was not simply portrayed as a war-ravaged co... moreuntry, but a multi-nuanced one. It was a quick read for me, and that was just what I wanted at the time.
review 2: I honestly thought this book was amazingly written. It is my first Andrea Busfield book and i'm truly amazed by her writing that I honestly want to go to Aphganistan because i truly think it's worth going there after reading this book. If you guys have any suggestions for me about any great Busfield books that you would like me to read don't hesitate to message me because I would really appreciate it. less
