review 1: The Pinkney’s created a great Narrative nonfiction book about famous African American men in history. The authors talk about great men that changed America. Also men created items that changed how we do things everywhere. Many of these men fought against many obstacles so all men and women to be equal and treated fair. While some of these men overcame challenges and because the best at their skill. Some of the famous African American men talked about in this story are Martian Luther King Jr, Barack Obama, Benjamin Banneker and Jackie Robinson. Everyone should read this book. It’s a great account of all the men talked about in this story. This book is full of life and the tone is inviting and a page turner. Children could read about a different African American each wee... morek in a language they will understand. I would recommend this book for students of all ages.
review 2: Pinkney provides readers with biographies of ten black men who made great contributions to American history from the Colonial Era to the present. Pinkney provides readers with a great reference to the biographies of many extraordinary black men like Benjamin Banneker, Booker T. Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., and Barack Obama. I loved how she provided a poem about each man at the beginning of their biographies. She also gave lots of valuable information on each. Teachers can have students refer to this book to learn more about these men during history lessons. It's also a great multicultural addition to a classroom library. This book's audience would be upper elementary and middle school. less
