review 1: This book reflects exactly as the title says: "truth you may never hear in church." Growing up, I went to church since I can remember and lived under a Christian household. You would think that going to church almost every week for 21 years, attending countless numbers of retreats, revivals, and events, that I would have a great knowledge and grasp of the Bible. We are prone to listen and apply everything we hear from our pastor's sermon, but what if everything he says is not exactly truth? For many years, the "church" does a great job presenting over "good stuff that everyone wants to hear." In this world, we also take Scripture out of literal context such as "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength," or "Ask in My name and it will be given to you." I was... more told many times how to "be" a good Christian, but not so much what it means to "live" as a Christian. Do this, don't do that, etc, is what we usually hear in church. This book opened my eyes to so much truth of God's Word. It takes you through many struggles that Christians undergo, but what does the Bible truly say? I recommend this book to any Christians that is struggling with their faith and feel like there's no "answer." Andrew Farley does a fantastic job really discussing tough "questions" that would be considered "bad" for a church.
review 2: Farley wrote with such compassion and conviction. He cuts through the junk that we have built up and goes straight to the heart of the Gospel. His words hit me hard. The Naked Gospel is just that, naked and pure. The heart of the Gospel is portrayed as simple, and something that we can ultimately have. Farley gives us a message that makes Jesus comes alive, and convinces readers that God is a loving God, and if we are in Christ, We are a new Creation! less
