Ever is trying to help Haven make the transition into life as an immortal. But with Haven drunk on her new powers and acting recklessly, she poses the ultimate threat — exposing their secret world to the outside. But Ever’s struggle to keep the Immortals hidden only propels Haven closer to the enemy: Roman and his evil companions.
At the same time, Ever delves deeper into dark magick to free Damen from Roman’s power. But when her spell backfires, it binds her to the one guy who’s hell-bent on her destruction. Now there’s a strange, foreign pulse coursing through her, and no matter what she does, she can’t stop thinking about Roman — and longing for his touch. As she struggles to resist the fiery attraction threatening to consume her, Roman is more than willing to take advantage of her weakened state…and Ever edges closer and closer to surrender. Frantic to break the spell before its too late, Ever turns to Jude for help, risking everything she knows and loves to save herself — and her future with Damen….
For the love of all that’s holy. I swear this book series seems to be getting worse with each new installment. Now I know why I stopped reading these books originally back at book 3. This time my ire will be directed at Ever – consider Damen wasn’t really in this book all that much to begin with – because man. Haven was right about one thing, she really needs to RELAX. This girl is way to up tight and while I’m all for characters finding their ‘dark sides’ and learning to balance the light with the dark I think this book took it a little bit too far. Especially with a character like Ever who is already neurotic as it is.
Personally, I think all of the drama that was in these 320 pages would have all been resolved if Ever had just talked through her problems with those closest to her. Because she decided to hide her secret from Damen and Haven, things got really really bad for her. And at least Damen is forgiving because he’s done some bad things in his centuries of existence, but maybe her ‘friendship’ with Haven could have been saved. But, like I’ve been saying for the last few books I still don’t think Haven and Miles are really Ever’s friends. At this point I think their just high schoolers that used to hang out together.
Final Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. I’m going to keep reading these books because I’ve wanted to know how this series ended for years. And now that Haven has turned against Ever and Roman, who was Ever and Damen’s only hope of touching again, is dead I’m curious to see where our soul mate couple is going to go next. I’m also curious to see what is going to happen with Miles now that he’s discovered that painting of Damen and Drina in Italy.
