review 1: I loved this book. It is a fantastic page-turner that always kept you on your toes. I've had my friends say that they didn't like it because it was to violent, and I whole heartily agree. It was very frightening in the late beginning/ middle part, but the last few chapters or so were less. I felt as though Andrew Klavan should have transformed the beginning/middle part of the book to the ending. More to the end it changed from horror to crime in the last sentence of a chapter to the first sentence of another. I love this book, but the transition between suspense and attempted murder/crime could have been WAY smoother. "Nightmare City" is a wonderful book for people that crave a exiting suspense and a horrific thriller, but be warned; things are not as they ... moreseem.
review 2: My first Andrew Klavan book was a YA/Christian fiction thriller. Despite being geared toward teens, I found plenty of suspense and action. Tom, a high school student just wrote a huge expose for the school paper and we then find out "the rest of the story". Well-paced and plotted, characters were well drawn. It was an interesting story about truth and standing up for what is right despite the cost. There were Christian themes but it was not a religious book by any means. I have already set this up for my kids to read as well. Be AWARE: violence, superficial discussion of drugs. Klavan wrote a unique story with a moral. I want to read more. Highly recommend. less
