review 1: Forsaken presents a well-crafted, well-paced ghost story that is equal parts suspense and horror. In fact, a few images are particularity horrific. Just love the metaphor of the trunk and the painting. One of my favorite scenes involved the first time Dan met Madame Tamara, and I dug how she used the tea and the cup as a metaphor for the physical versus the spiritual. Dan is an empathetic anti-hero. The last sixty-one pages of this book are especially good, and the final twenty-six are stunning. That being said, the entire book, start-to-finish, kept me on the edge of my seat. XO.
