review 1: The 4 & 5 year olds loved this story of an insecure cow who hatches an egg. I sandwiched it between "Guess What Is Growing Inside This Egg?" By Mia Posada and "Except If" by Jim Averbeck for an egg-stra special spring storytime. Some children prefer non-fiction and some prefer fiction, so mixing the two provides something for both types of readers. You will be nurturing print motivation, the love love and enjoyment of books.
review 2: This fiction book is a story about a cow who feels very insecure about herself. She can’t do a hand stand or ride a bicycle like the other cows. She feels very ordinary. All of a sudden, she laid an egg. All of the cows were astonished and so was the farmer. She became famous across the town! Marjorie felt special now! All o
... moref the other cows found out that chickens laid eggs, and soon the cows told her that she didn't lay the egg. They think the chickens did it to make her feel better, but the chickens were not going to tell. So Marjorie waited for this egg to hatch, and when it did a chicken came out. The other cows were telling Marjorie that it was a chicken… until it screamed “MOOOO!” Marjorie named her cow chicken daisy. This is a great book to use when teaching children about what illustrations can do for a written piece. The illustrations in this book are extremely eye catching; I don’t think that the book would be as good if the pictures weren't done in the way that they were. Students can use this book as a reference when they are trying to decide what kind of illustrations they want to use for their written piece. less
