review 1: The Baby-Sitters Club the summer before is a chapter book about the lives of four girls, Kristy, Stacey, Maryanne, and Claudia. This book is about the summer before seventh grade. Each chapter is from a different girls perspective about how the girls summer is going. I loved that part of the book because each girl is going through different stages of their life. Claudia is growing up faster then her friends are. Stacey was bullied so much in New York she can't wait to move to Connecticut. Kristy is waiting anxiously for her dad to remember her birthday at the end of the summer. And Maryanne is trying to convince her dad she is old enough for certain things like babysitting. By having each chapter from each girls perspective gives this book a dynamic most books lack. It rea... morelly shows that different people going through different circumstances can still be the best of friends. I would recommend this book for a summer reading project before going into middle school. I think it will be relatable to the students and a set of comfort. Also this book is part of the baby-sitters club series so hopefully by reading the first book students will want to continue reading the series.
review 2: First- There were several pages and passages that I kind of felt were taken verbatim from some other BSC books- it was like literary deja vu. Is that accurate, or is it just me?Second- I loved this book. Even though I felt some of the material was recycled, more of it gave me new insight into girls I thought I "knew" completely. And even though I am one of those 90s babies who grew up with the BSC and was hoping for a "Where Are They Now" tome, The Summer Before takes me back through MY summers, and allows me to remember and revisit them in a simplistically beautiful way. less
