UNSUB by Meg Gardiner

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finally, a story that could fit into my crime & mystery shelf.

The story and plot

I thought at first from the title that this is a book about some regular criminal which the feds usually call “unsub” because it’s unidentified yet.
But as the story goes deeper, there’s a more twist to the plot that it seems at first.
The connection to Dante’s Inferno has often been used as a background story, but this is the first book I read that actually try to depict the story. It’s brilliant how the imagination runs free to pictured the nine gates of hell. Got to admit, it’s takes some serious thinking in making the describe the Inferno in real life and some crazy guy to actually relive it.
I love how the story started slowly (but not too slow) and rapidly fast pace to the conclusion about the unsub.

Characters

The relationship between the characters is not too emotional. “Enough” for a father daughter relationship with a troubled past. Not too much romance, which is good. Caitlin Hendrix appears a bit of strong will character, stubborn at times but still appear humane. Mack Hendrix also has a good role in the story, as a father that tried to protect his daughter, only not too much. It was revealed in the latter part of the story.
However, all the characters relationship looks a bit like Disney story. For example, Caitlin and Michelle (Sean’s ex) are friends, which in reality it would be weird being friends with your boyfriend’s ex.

The end

Oh, how I love the end…it’s so unexpected and surprising. The ending is wrap up quite nicely that makes the readers wants to know what’s next.

Recommendation

I think this would make a great movie or tv series.
Recommended for thrill seekers, fast pace story lovers and those who loves Dante’s Inferno.
