review 1: This was a well-written and interesting inspirational coming-of-age novel set during the Prohibition era. I really liked Eve's development as a character, especially her realizations that rule-following and perfectionism just doesn't cut it and that she can't "be good." There was no precise conversion, but it was easy to see her gradual spiritual growth into having a relationship with God. This is definitely another edition to my "favorites" shelf.
review 2: This is the fourth book that I have read by Ann Tatlock, and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one of them. In each one, she takes a brief period in the history of our country and lets the reader see it through the eyes of one growing up during that time--usually someone who is very naive, honest, and idealis
... moretic. Even though I had "figured out" some things before the author revealed them, i was totally engrossed in the book--only the barest of essentials got done around my house until I finished it. less

I would say a 3.5 for the story, but a 4 because it was very clean. Sweet, quick read!
