The Dirt Diary
review 1: My copy was provided by Netgalley.Rachel is still working for her mom's cleaning business, but her life is looking a lot brighter recently ever since she got a possible boyfriend and she's going to a cooking class so she can one day be a professional cook. Yet, her happy life is soon covered with clouds when a new cleaning business comes in town and it seems like they want to shut down Rachel's mom's business. And Rachel's cooking class includes a cute guy who might change everything she's ever known about her mom's business and cooking.Rachel has to figure out how to save her mom's business or her mom won't have enough money to support Rachel. She has to decide if she should go back to her old sneaky ways or if she's done with secrets for good.I really love the writing st... moreyle of this author. She manages to blend humor with seriousness quite well. I find this book to be very funny, but the humor doesn't get in the way with the message the author is trying to convey. The characters, even the new ones, were funny and refreshing. I enjoyed reading this book the whole time and I felt as if it was a perfect sequel to The Dirt Diary. What I like the most about Rachel's character is how she is exactly like a teenage girl. She's brave and full of love, but she makes stupid mistakes. She's just like a teen when she's dense whenever it comes to the guy she likes. Her decisions may have seemed misguided and stupid, but they would make sense to a teenager. Rachel made mistakes any normal teen would make and that made Rachel seem alive to me.I also liked how this book was laced with lessons that the author wanted the readers to learn. She wanted people to realize they can reevaluate their past mistakes and change anything that seems chaotic into something that helps everyone.I loved this book and I can't wait to read the third book. The humor and the seriousness of the plot keep this story alive and refreshing.
review 2: Oh my goldfish- this book is so adorable! I really enjoyed The Dirt Diaries and it was a lot of fun to revisit Rachel a few weeks after the events of book one wrap up. Rachel still struggles with taking matters into her own hands- this time in a series of pranks designed to wipe out a competing cleaning business- but she's so sweetly justified in her actions and so willing to reexamine her behaviors that we cheer her through even the worst of them! And the subplot of Rachel's pastry-making classes and the subsequent Bake-Off left me my sweet tooth aching!! less
