review 1: Okay this is a page turner.I even liked it better than the first where i was seething with rage for the things Julian did to Nora. And i still seethe cause i'm not okay with many scenes in this book but it's supposed to be this way, so i hate myself for loving this.i like how realistic Nora's mental situation is; the girl is clearly suffering from traumatic bonding and Stockholm's Syndrome. She feels like she can't live without Julian and is willing endure every pain he puts her through. The "love" she claims she feels is still not convincing to me. A man who has kidnapped you, abused you, forced you to marry him (for the love of GOD) is certainly not the love of your life normally but she's been brainwashed by Julian who has this odd obsessive attitude towards her which i... more still don't understand. Whenever she asks him he just flips her onto her stomach and has sex with her. Why Nora? Why her of all women? What's so special about her? The insight into his past was certainly helpful but i still have many questions. And don't tell me he wants her because she reminds him of his kitten. I don't know what to think of Julian yet, to me he's still her captor, a very cold, distant, ruthless criminal who just uses her for sexual gratification. He likes inflicting pain and i cringe whenever he says he needs to train her like she's his personal sex slave. This whole need of his is mainly sexual. There are fragments of deeper/affectionate emotions in this book but he just goes on doing whatever he wants with her ( whipping, flogging, almost choking to death) and she agrees, never puts on a fight except when he wants to insert a tracking chip in her body. Like I said i know she's traumatized but i can't with her opening her legs straight away and becoming his sex toy when he feels like it. I thought she was going to take advantage of his need of her at some point but no, Nora never gets the upper hand in this story. Not even when she clearly admits he's still her captor and that he may never love her. Probably she's still scared of his reaction if she shows restraint and that just simply shows there isn't any romance/love story yet. He opens up a bit but then he just shuts her out again which makes me want to read the next installment like crazy because the characters are everything in this series. I HOPE things will change in book 3, I want to see them as a couple, not as a sociopath carrying around his little pet. I also want Nora to grow some backbone and stand up for herself. And please less sex scenes, we get it, Julian is constantly aroused but i think I've had enough in this book. I need to see their relationship evolve.
review 2: I manage to rasp out, my fingers now clawing at his hand, trying to pry it away. To my horror, I start seeing stars, the room blurring and going dark in front of my eyes. Surely he doesn’t mean to kill me . . . Surely he doesn’t mean to kill me . . . I am terrified, yet for some strange reason, my sex throbs and electric shivers run over my skin as my arousal spirals inexorably higher. “Good. Now tell me . . . whose wife are you .I finally finished the book, could have finished faster but was a bit busy. Anyways I took this extract from the book because it is one of my favorite parts. Its not dark erotic ; erotic yes but it was more on the romance side. I fell in love with the book from I read book one. Some parts were unpredictable and the book more exciting. I wanted Jullian to be a little darker but it was good. less
