review 1: I first thought this would be like a children's book, because of the title mostly but when I read it, I could barely stop to get things done. In my opinion, it's one of the best books I've read this year out of quite a few. I still have some mixed feelings about the book, but that's normal, I guess.I found the concept of a girl sharing a secret with someone on death row quite interesting because it's quite ironic, due to the death that involves her. I sympathised with Zoe during the start of the book, but nearer the end I started going off the character. Although I'm unsure why.All in all I'd definitely recommend this book to anybody interested in it, it's a great read.
review 2: This review contains spoilers. And bad words. You have been warned.I've been inter... moreested in reading more contemporary YA fiction. However, this one was NOT an example of the finest. It starts off rather promising. The entire novel is epistolary, with the British teenage narrator penning her letters to a death row inmate in Texas. However, all of the characters were two-dimensional and unbelievable. The narrator wasn't very likable throughout the novel, but the end? The end is the absolute worst. At the beginning, the narrator writes to the inmate, saying she can relate to him, because she too has murdered someone she loved. Then, the story unfolds. As a seasoned reader, you're thinking, Poor girl feels overly guilty about something that may or may not have contributed to someone's death. Nope. She killed a boy. Totally killed him. And nobody finds out. Even in the end. What. The. Actual. Fuck.Looking forward to more pathological narratives from this author. . . less
