review 1: Ugh, I cannot recommend this book at all. The main character was snobby and unlikeable, the writing was dense, and the author used so many elaborate SAT words and references I felt like I needed a dictionary next to me for every paragraph. I kept waiting for something to happen, bearing through this novel, and nothing did. The "cliffhanger" at the end was the most obvious reveal. Such an odd way to treat a reader by trying to impress him/her with this ridiculously elitist writing then dumbing down a narrative by making it the easiest "mystery" in the world. I do not know how it received such great reviews.
review 2: This was a fun peek into the world of British journalists in the 1990s before the interweb changed it all. It follows the stories of two journalist
... mores, one a crabby older foreign correspondent and one a young society reporter. At times the story was kind of predictable and the characters maybe a little too rigid in their "types" but I found it pretty fun overall and I liked the fact that it was set in the 90s. less
