review 1: This is book 6 of Tales of Goldstone Wood. The book starts with a prologue and then continues several years later, after catastrophe has struck the land. There is limited explanation of this catastrophe and there is also references to several other events that took place during the time between the prologue and the balance of the book. Apparently these events and probable others that are relevant to a complete understanding of this book occur in books 1-5 of Tales of Goldstone Wood. So, while this book is readable, I feel left out of the missing years from the book and prior events.
review 2: The main characters in this book annoyed/amused me in previous books but their transformation into people you actually care about was a surprise. Minds me much of wh... moreat happens to Eustace Scrub in "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (except the character in question is not quite so horrid). The main evil is very creepy and along with the time jumps, I wonder if the author isn't a Star Trek fan. Definitely an unexpected turn of events, but a good read. less
