review 1: This is one of the most exciting and emotionally involving Young Adult novel I've read for a while, for its inscrutable but loveable central character and a rather harrowing narrative which definitely affected me as an unsuspecting reader. Anne Fine writes in an accessible and honest way to tackle some quite brutal issues, whilst conserving the appropriate humour and charm to make this an infinitely readable book.
review 2: It took me a while to get interested in this book, but overall I'm glad I read it. The book gave me an insight to the life of such a child as Eddie and the use of different narrative points gave more detail. This kind of story is one you only get briefly explained by some character or another in a book or movie full of action, but fully blow
... moren up. I could find myself slipping away from the book from time to time, but Fine is a truly beautiful writer. less
