review 1: I really enjoyed this book. It is a bit drawn out, but the story pulled me through it. I did get kind of antsy during the switching back and forth in time periods, but it made me keep reading to find out what happened. It has me really curious about the Amazons now, and I want to investigate their actual history a bit more. The book is predictable in some sense, but didn't detract from its entertainment value for me. I'd like to read her other book Juliet as well.
review 2: The premise of The Lost Sisterhood sounded fabulous. The Amazons, those fierce women of Ancient Greece were a truth in history, had left archeological and philological evidence and our heroine in present time had an authentic bracelet linking her to them through her eccentric, misunderstood
... moregrandmother. The hunt is on, peopled with characters of doubtful ethics and the detailed knowledge that our Oxford scholar has at the tip of her tongue. The scene switches to Ancient Greece, where the tribe of the Amazons began, lengthily descriptive of the locale, names, events, palaces, ships, traditions fleshed out by woeful women, living in a brutally misogynistic time. Explanations for almost mythical stories are given romantic, tortured love affairs reaching for happily ever after against all odds. There was such hope for this book. But when the major characters began to tell, or teach the same information but with literary footnotes, in present time, to others in the novel, my interest waned. For the first time in my life, I have been introduced to a book which put me to sleep after ten pages, 2/3 into the novel. I sleep read through till the end. Great research but a stagnant group of characters plodding at a turtle's pace through a plot which almost got lost in a plethora of Ancient Greek history. less

It was okay. Maybe too wordy, and too long, but okay overall.
