review 1: I really enjoy the pace and style of Holt's books. In this one, former police investigator-now confined to a wheelchair- Hanne Wilhemson is trapped in a mountain hotel at Finse 1222, following a train wreck caused by severe winter weather. The group is trapped for days in this furious storm and people get killed...a bit of Agatha Christie and actually I see more than a little of Poirot in Hanne's interpretation of the world. The characters are well drawn, the mystery plays out little by little with enough surprises to keep me interested. Hanne joins forces with a doctor and a judge to try and sort out who's behind the killings. Seeing this cranky cripple become engaged with the situation and her fellow passengers is delightful. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the B... moreeaufort scale as markers in the progress of both storm and book.
review 2: I bought this book in the sale bin and it turned out to be one of those inexpensive gems you sometime stumble upon. The story has a nice even pace and carries through the whole book. It makes for a nice and easy read, very enjoyable. I really liked the setting and regret not waiting for the winter to read it. This book left me wanting more, so I'll be sure to seek out more from the author, as well as more Scandinavian crime fiction in general. less

Wonderful character development and an echoing of Agatha Christie. A good psychological mystery.
