review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot was complex, so it was exciting when all the story lines came together. It was slightly frustrating that some of the clues and revelations were drawn out for a long time and didn't amount to anything near as exciting as I had hoped. However, I do respect this novel because it is not a simple whodunit mystery, but instead gets its climax from a moment of irony that is not nearly as straightforward as revealing the murderer. Overall, I enjoyed the plot, but was more impressed with the depth of her characters - even those who were only introduced for a few pages. For this reason, I would like to read more of her work.

... moreoes. Another one of the rash of Scandi writers all over the crime genre. Oslo, an intriguing opening scene and then quite readable. Holt has an interesting literary tic in which she echoes from one passage to the next, quite deliberately, but after a while, it just became annoying. Then as the book progressed, being virtually beaten with the gay agenda was a little like reading a sermon. Hate group, contract hitters, people dying mysteriously, all that stuff, and then it folds back to something local motivated by greed. Okay... The Kristiane character was fascinating and I thought could have been far more developed. Oslo was, well, Oslo. Some lovely writing here and there, but in the end, was glad I read it, but won't be rushing out seeking more. less
