review 1: I quite liked this one. For a HQ Presents, it's less contrived than usual. The usual cliches are mostly not present. There are no secret babies, unexpected pregnancies, marriages of convenience, or boss-employee relationship. No one is out to get revenge, although there is a one night stand. Edie and Nick meets at a wedding and then have a one night stand. Both characters have suffered losses in the past. Nick lost his fiancee 2 days before their wedding and Edie lost her husband after a brief marriage. Edie hasn't been attracted to anyone since her husband's passing, but finds Nick insanely attractive and so agrees to have a one night stand even though it's not really her thing. Nick doesn't believe in loving again, but Edie is willing to take a chance if the right person... more comes along. What follows is a story of two people getting to know each other, moving on from their past, and realizing that they could have a wonderful future together. I like Edie. She's smart, caring, and not willing to let other people all over her. She is also flawed. She does let her family encroach on her personal time and space and she works a lot (but that might just be because of Nick). Overall, she's not hard to related to. Nick on the other hand, is a less assholey version of the typical HQ hero. He's got a strong personality, but doesn't use it to browbeat the heroine. He's also (refreshingly) an architect/building restoration expert, not some high powered business magnate (although he's related to some prince...).Overall a very solid offering. Definitely recommended to people looking for a quick, entertaining, and somewhat believable read.
review 2: Very enjoyable.Edie Tremayne has become the second mother to her fellow siblings. Denied children of her own after the tragic loss of her husband, she was more than willing to step in and help her movie-star mother with her career and family. Her mother feels it has been long enough, and that Edie needs to rejoin life, and tries her hand a matchmaking. Little does she relize, Edie has already had her emotions sparked awake by the gorgeous Nick Savas.Nick and Edie agree at the very beginning, that neither wanted love, just a little romance. Nick had never got over the loss of his own fiancee just before their wedding. He did not want to feel ever again. But friendship, trust, and love are not a choice they can make, or deny. less
