review 1: This was one of the best books I have read in a while, hands down! I absolutely adored Maddy. She was so brave, smart, and sassy. And Luca? He was like all Anne Stuart's other heroes: edgy, unlovable, with that go-to-hell attitude most of Stuart's heroes have. But he had something more, which made him better than other Stuart heroes: he did have a soft-spot, a tenderness that many of her men characters lack. I fell in love with Luca! Maddy and Luca have so much chemistry. Their dialogue is crisp and hilarious, and the sexual tension is off the page. This book delivers on all counts.The plot is a little hazy, as is why the villain is doing what he is doing, but since this is a series, I figure the clues are spread out throughout the three books. The vagueness doesn't detrac... moret from the fantastic storyline or romance.If you like pirate stories with more than just "Aargh!" to them, this one is a keeper. I will probably read it again at some point, as well as buy the others in this trilogy. I'm so glad Ms. Stuart has returned to historical fiction.
review 2: Disappointed. The plot is almost the same as the first one. And since we all know that the real culprit is not the captain, all these seemed pointless. The villain is unbelievable. Really fortunate, didn't he? And I didn't get the reason(s) why he wanted to kill all those daughters as well since they do not know a thing, don't even have a clue, really. Lost interest since the beginning, just flipped through, hoping I would get a clue somewhere, but hmmm... found nothing.PS - Linda, agree with your assesment about the hit or miss ;) less
