review 1: it took me awhile to get into this book. I'm not a huge historical romance person in general but i usually really like this author. Bryony took awhile to grow on me although Adrian was a fun character right away. i am interested in the mystery involved in this series. i didn't like how abrupt the ending was, including the two main characters being together - that felt super rushed and didn't flow very well with the pace of the rest of the book. definitely felt like the first book of a series vs a book that can stand alone in its own. 3 stars, maybe even 2.5.
review 2: Interesting story. Likeable enough characters. Although I think I like some of the minor characters better than the main characters. The mystery that is driving Bryony for the whole book... more is wrapped up with no effort on anyone's part but the villain announcing who he is and then being killed by an inanimate object. Very frustrating as a reader. I do understand the genre it is written in and so it was a pleasant enough read and since I bought the next one will continue on with the series. less
