The Twenty-Sided Sorceress
review 1: You can't be an urban fantasy loving geek and not appreciate this book. Despite some problems common to most self-published books (i.e. the lack of editing), I did enjoy it quite a lot and my heart warmed at a female protagonist who was so relatable to me and realistic in her reactions. The plot was good, the secondary characters and mythology were interesting and I'll definitely be reading more of Annie Bellett's twenty-sided sorceress in the near future.
review 2: Literally the book lasted me a day, it was fast paced enough to finish in one long sitting. Now, the book is good, I liked the world as it was built, but it felt mmm it felt "unfinished" somehow. Lets start with the humor: it was fresh (any book with a 20 sided dice on it as chapters deserves to be
... moreread period.) but some nerd jokes felt forced. The book felt TOO young if that is possible, maybe a overly naive: for a character that has been around for supposedly around 50 yrs and has lived thru hell and back after loosing the people she loved twice, living on the streets and coming out from a cult she was TOO naive, too "young" too inexperienced, too teenagerish. I will probably read the next one as "light read", but definitively I am NOT sold on the main characters, the way they were described and handled is too unreal, I would expect some more emotional responses besides joking about tear ducks for not crying for someone that has lived on the street and survived being killed multiple times. less
