Here’s my opinion on baked goods. If you’re going to eat them, eat them homemade. Store bought and packaged baked goods have so much crap in them. And let’s be honest, they’re not that great tasting! And when you do make them, don’t try to make them all “healthified.” Use butter. Use sugar. Use flour! Use high quality and minimally processed versions of them, but use them. Don’t try and replace the butter with avocado. Don’t spend extra money on agave or raw organic cane sugar because sugar is sugar, and your body will recognize it all the same. Don’t use black beans, garbanzo beans, or quinoa instead of flour… it won’t taste as good – and if you’re going to bake, it might as well taste good!
The point I’m trying to get across is that yes, baked goods are typically calorie dense and contain a lot of sugar that we don’t necessarily need in our diet. So you should 100% be aware and mindful of that. But it is okay to eat them! What’s most important is that you know exactly what’s in them, and that you don’t over-indulge.
