Widowsfield Trilogy
review 1: It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that creeped me out this much. I think the last time was while reading about Pennywise in Stephen King’s It. While Wise is no King, he does have a knack for storytelling and threw lots of suspense and mystery into this tale of what happened in Widowsfield, a ghost town. Alma Harper is a young music teacher who has tried to put Widowsfield behind her. But no matter what, she can’t get away from the number 314. When she gets manipulated into returning to the town where all the citizen’s died back on March 14, 1996, she’s becomes determined to finally learn all the answers that have alluded her for so long. She and her father were perhaps the only people who made it out of the town alive. A fog with green lightning ins... moreide it, howling murdering little children with the heads of dogs tearing people apart and children killing their parents all happened at the urging of (I dread saying his name) The Skeleton Man. One reaches the end of this story and just wants MORE. That’s the kind of story I like and fortunately there is more. I’m starting book two this evening (while my husband is home).
review 2: This book is one long introduction to a series but wow, what an introduction. You will begin to be freaked out at page one and it will continue to twist and turn your guts through the last page. Sometimes when reading a trilogy I think the author puts filler into the story so they can say they have written a trilogy. After reading this book I have come to the conclusion that there is NO WAY that Wise could have cut out even a sentence. As far as introductions to trilogies go, this one is explosive. It is creepy and the perfect series to start during the Halloween season. I have never read any of Wise's work before this but if the rest of them are along these lines, Wise, you are one disturbed individual. My copy of this book had a preview of book two in it and it looks like book two will be just as disturbing as book one. I should probably start it now but I'm trying to work up the courage. less
