review 1: I was not familiar with any work of Archer Mayor. My mom actually advised me to check him out, thinking I may like it. All I can say is "Wow!"I found this book fast-moving, well-written, great plot twists and wonderful character development. It's only about 290 pages but I still finished it off in 3 sittings: about 80 pages the first time, 70 the next and then the final 140.I cant compare this to any of his other novels. However, I will definitely read his other novels. I've discovered a new author. To me, at least based on Red Herring, I find Mr. Mayor similar to Michael Connelly--and coming from me, that means a lot. Mr. Connelly is one of my faves. Thanks to my mom for suggesting himThanks to Mr. Mayor for being a great writer. You have a new fan of your ... morework.
review 2: I discovered Mr. Mayor many years ago. I quit reading him after awhile as the books tended to have the same formulas. He has stepped out a bit and I do enjoy how they solve the crimes. Joe Gunther is a true hero. I felt badly when he and Gail went their separate ways, though. However, now that she is governor, it's just as well. For whatever reason, I never could warm up to Lyn. So as sad as the ending was, Mayor pulled the plug on the right one.I started the Tag Man before reading this. However, after the first several pages, I realized I had missed something big. And I care too much about the characters not to find out. (Willy Kunkle does push it a bit, though). I also wonder why no one.has picked up this.series for the big screen. Or maybe even a well done TV series. less
