review 1: Really enjoyed this one. As always, having so many familiar places in Vermont to relate to, it made this a book I couldn't put down once I started. It was good to catch up with the characters again. The amount of info given on the characters is perfect. It's a little like the Law and Order TV series just in that way. You get a good solid glimpse into the lives of the investigators so you care about them, but the story moves along so swiftly that there isn't time to linger on their personal stories. This is the fourth Archer Mayor book I have read. I haven't been reading this series in sequence, but I am looking forward to going back over the earlier ones now. I enjoyed how the author used Hurricane Irene as a backdrop and told several seemingly unrelated stories an... mored diversions that all of a sudden made great sense in the end. But for as much as it all made sense, I really didn't see it coming at all.
review 2: This is another solid installment in Mayor's Joe Gunther series set in Vermont. In this outing, Joe and his Vermont Bureau of Investigation team are dealing with the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Irene when Vermont roads were torn up, houses were washed away, and people were lost. There are two stories running concurrently in this book, both of which are compelling. I'm glad to see that Willy Kunkel is finally showing some growth. I look forward to seeing how things will progress with this interesting character. less

Another enjoyable Joe Gunther mystery, politics, murder, and all. Suspense to the last pages.

The plot is a bit far-fetched, but it's a pleasure to see Joe Gunther again.

Not the best in the series but the ending made up for any shortcomings.
