review 1: This is more a reference book than a pleasure read, but that doesn't mean it's not useful. There is a wealth of information here on every step of the way for moving your project along the way.This is a book to keep, mark up, make notes in, and refer back to. I strongly recommend it to every writer who is not currently making their living from the written word, and even some who are.I got this as a gift and am very glad I did.
review 2: I bought this book in 2010 in my student bookstore, at the time knowing that one day I would like to write and publish. The authors include a wide variety of information in this book and I leafed through the parts relevant to me. For example, there's a section on self-publishing and the traditional routes of publishing, as well... more as building social media in order to get your published book to your followers. They also include small little stories distinctly separate from the main text about real authors who benefited from the tips offered in the book. However, the book does not include a wide range of tips of writing, and instead goes to the whole wide range of processes in publishing and promoting one's writing. For example, before you even publish your book you should have an established audience through social media and the authors also give you some tips on what you should be doing after you have published. While not one writing book alone will answer all one's writing questions, this book is a great starting point of how to get your book published, it goes into great detail on finding an agent, editor, publisher, and other great resources that a writer should know about. less
