review 1: I really enjoyed this novel , but I feel betrayed by the author. It was all so lovely and poetic and well written and then the last 20 pages... it was like the actual author had died and someone else thought, 'hmm, let's wrap this baby up as fast as possible'. I'm sure I'll appreciate the ending eventually, but right now, I am just really disappointed and angry with the author. Damned melancholy book.
review 2: A gentle story by Ashley Hay, The Railwayman's Wife takes the reader to a small town in the aftermath of the Second World War in Australia. It is the story of a young couple and their daughter who love each other, two gentleman back from the war and various characters within the town. The images and serenity of this coastal town are a great back drop t
... moreo the innocence and quiet respectfulness of the time. The characters call each other Mr and Mrs and everyone is very polite. When there is a death of one of the characters, Ashley explores the emotions and challenges faced by many of the townspeople as they attempt to deal with moving forward in their lives. A very enjoyable novel, easy to read. less
