Legacy Code
review 1: Legacy Code is the first book in a new series written by Autumn Kalquist. Three hundred years in the future mankind, beaten and broken, has fled a dead Earth carrying the Legacy Code—mangled genes that force them to abort half their unborn children. The remnants of civilization still search for a new home as we meet a young, pregnant couple Era and Dritan Corinth as they discovers the outcome of her pregnancy and uncovers more about the Legacy Code.On the day she is treceive het results, the ship suffers a hull breach. An investigation ensues revealing new threats, secrets and lies. Era begins to grow from someone who is afraid and shy most of the time into a strong woman to capable of helping the people around her. The upper hierachy hides information and oppresses i... morets people, Era begins to doubt everything she’s been taught about the fleet, their search for a new home, and the what they know of the Defect. But some things are never meant to be discovered.Legacy Code is a dark post-apocalyptic suspenseful tale that is a bit shorter than I would have hoped but I see a lot of potential for this series, finishing with a number of many questions left unanswered. I’ll be awaiting the soon to be released 2nd book eagerly. The story reminding me in places of Hunger Games, Divergent, and the recent Battlestar Galactica series.
review 2: So I actually read this entire book in one night, only took a few hours so it's a quick read. That could be good or bad to some people - for me I actually liked it, it allowed me to finish the book without forgetting what I read (in my case that's b/c I usually forget I'm reading something) and since it's failry cheap on Amazon for the digital copy it's a good deal.I won't go into the premise since so many other reviews do - but I really enjoyed the story. It did end in a bit of a cliff hanger which I liked, since it makes you want to read the rest of the series. Though you do get some closure for the main characters. I think this was an interesting approach and gives the author a bit more to play with in terms of other characters in the book and their stories as the series progresses. That should be interesting to see other charachters developed even more. So, I'm curious to see what happens in the next book. I think the premise of the series is really interesting and it wasn't too filled with technical stuff that you couldn't follow, but aslo wasn't totally lacking in that area either. I felt it was a comfortable balance and I followed the author's idea of this future society without feeling like parts were missing or incomplete (aside perhaps from things that were supposed to be kept a mystery for now). Overall it was a good read and I'd reccommend it - especially for those that like quick reads. less
