review 1: So this is the third book of the series Otomen by Aya Kanno. I enjoyed reading it more than the other ones, mainly because of the characters in this story. There are spoilers in this review so please at least have read the first book before reading this or if you aren't planning on reading the series. So as a quick overview: Asuka is a cool, stoic guy who is hiding something. He, in fact is an Otomen! This means that he is a very girl guy, who loves knitting and sewing and baking and cooking! However he keeps this all a secret from those around him, for he is afraid of his mother finding out- or anyone in general. He only has two friends who know, Juta and Ryo. Juta is the annoying but fun and crazy one who is secretly a shojo-manga writer himself under the pen name Jewel S... moreachihana, who's newest OTP and stars of his manga 'Love-Chick' are Ryo and Asuka. Asuka, a big fan, still hasn't gotten the connection, even though the main characters have the same names. Ryo is a very tomboyish girl, who can't make toast or sew or knit whatsoever. However she is Asuka's crush but he is far to frightened to ask her out!In this book there are four short stories about Asuka and his acquaintances, I loved reading about them all! There were also some new characters introduced in this book. I really liked meeting them, Yamato Ariake and Hajime Tonomine are the newest characters in the story. I am pretty sure Yamato had a small appearance in the last book, but I cannot be so sure.Overall, for first time readers of manga I would suggest this series because I am no manga expert, this is the second manga series I have started and I really, really like it!
review 2: Asuka is thrown into a children’s nursery where once again he gets to show his nurturing nature along with his tough-guy machismo. He also goes to an amusement park, urged on by the ever-present Juta, in order to spur his lagging romance with Ryo. As usual, nothing goes quite as planned. However, this volume shifts attention in the middle from Asuka’s nowhere relationship with Ryo to the supposed fifth wheel in their triumvirate: the sassy, flirtatious Juta. There is an air of mystery about Juta and his girlfriends don’t like it. That’s right, girlfriends, plural. Juta is a playboy and makes no secret about it. But what’s baffling is that his numerous girlfriends all know about it and don’t seem to care. They even know about each other! This must be a foreign concept because I simply don’t get it. Why would any self-respecting girl put up with the boy they’re interested in if he’s seeing other women? It’s like Juta is a pasha and these teenage girls are part of his harem. Honestly, I felt so annoyed with their fawning behavior towards him that it made Asuka’s neutral behavior towards Ryo seem almost attractive. This baffling behavior kicks off the middle part of this volume as Asuka tries to learn more about Juta. Asuka comes to a completely wrongful conclusion about him and doesn’t learn anything like the truth, thus keeping Juta’s secret intact. That secret adds a certain edge to the cuteness factor, which keeps this volume from being too adorable. But then we get a surprise as Asuka faces off against a bitter kendo rival. Just when you think the book will dissolve into a predictable fight as one boy attempts to defeat the other, we get a surprise, one so good I simply can’t spoil it here. It nearly obliterates my contempt over those silly girls. less

More role reversal silliness that includes a school girl crush that almost ends up in matrimony.
