review 1: As an ardent follower of Tamil cinema and Mani Ratnam's movies in particular, this was something I couldn't miss out on. Add to it the fact that it is written by my favorite movie critic, Baradwaj Rangan. The hardcover version is a connoisseur's delight. Excellent quality and lots of pictures.Rangan sheds light on different facets of the reticent auteur's body of work. Highly recommended read!
review 2: Engaging upto a point, becomes repetitive and self indulgent after a point. The idea of dividing the book into chapters of films seemed like a good idea initially, but makes a boring conversation after around 2/3rds way into the book. Mani Ratnam comes across as a reluctant conversationalist, and the author has done a very good job in extracting these conversati
... moreons from him. Would suggest this book only for movie buffs, who like reading about the creative thoughts underlying movie making.. Even there Mani Ratnam is very guarded and tends to break it all down into a mathematical equation or logical thought process. less
