review 1: Faith is a nurse, and Tate, a sheriff; they meet through work and develop a sweet, supportive friendship, though each has sadness in their past that leaves them hesitant to pursue a romance. Faith and Tate’s conflict was well-motivated, their reluctance, and Faith’s attempt to distance herself from Tate at a crucial point felt true to the character.A portion of the story unfolds a little uneventfully for a time, save for the entrance of an adorable dog family, it’s mostly devoted to establishing Faith’s strong bonds with Tate and her new hometown. I thought that groundwork paid off in the final third of the novel when there was more urgency and higher emotional stakes at play, it was definitely my favorite part of the book. The actual world may not always be as comp... moreassionate as Rocky Point, but it’s kind of soothing to visit such an idyllic place for a couple hundred pages.I received this through a Goodreads giveaway.
review 2: "Rocky Point Promise" by Barbara McMahon is a sweet book that is set in Rocky Point, Maine yet again. Though this continues on with characters from "The Family Next Door" and "Rocky Point Reunion", this is a book that can and does stand completely on its own.Sheriff Tate Johnson is a man with past and that past involves a bit of hurt and pain that he is not sure he can ever get over. He is a tender man who thinks constantly of others, he is the first person to help anyone out who needs it. Faith Stewart is the new nurse in town with her own history and painful past. She too is a woman who only wants to help, but in a way that doesn't get in the way of pride or anything else. She is a woman who is still searching for the path that she has been placed on and learning along the way. Here is a story of two people who meet in their line of work, as most nurses and policemen might do, and strike up a friendship, which is all either of them are looking for. Tate is showing the new girl around to help her meet new people, and Faith is enjoying getting to meet everyone. But not everyone is happy with Faith and things get a little complicated at times because of this. This is a sweet story of friendship, somewhere along the way, in the most sneakiest of ways changed without Faith or Tate realizing it. Rumors were going around, so apparently they were only blind to each other and themselves. The story was done in such a way that really, it was believable that neither the hero or heroine realized what was going on for they were enjoying their friendship, and laughing about the rumors that they knew about. This book was a great on a snow day all snuggled up while reading it. I cried and I laughed. My heart ached at times as the past stories were told about each Faith and Tate. I wonder if there will be more stories centered around Rocky Point for I sure hope so. less
