review 1: This was something really different. I've read books with Jewish characters showing Jewish culture, but I've never read one that was a straight fantasy, using their myths and traditions to craft an entirely new story. My favorite adventure was the one with the raging pig. Imagine not knowing what a pig was! It was both hilarious and exciting even before the pig began to talk. I'm looking forward to number two.
review 2: Folk-tale-like story of an eleven-year-old tomboy, Mirka, in an Orthodox Jewish community who dreams of dragon-slaying and unexpectedly stumbles into a magic quest that could help her with her dream of heroism. However, I see that at least one other Mirka story has been published by now, so hopefully we'll get a little more development and possibly resolution on some of those sub-plots. less

Completely disarming, ironically. Love the characters, love the story, love the art.

This is pretty fun. "Yet another troll-fighting 11-year-old Orthodox Jewish Girl."

This is a very unusual premise for a graphic novel, and I enjoyed it.

3.5 stars. Cute, quirky book with a look into another culture.
